Defensive Living

One of the harder things to accept about being open and vulnerable is that we can still get hurt. To be totally honest, it is sort of the ugly side of vulnerability that we like to glaze over in the self-help books. But it is true, we can open up, be vulnerable and fall on our ass. Yet, despite that reality, I believe it is valuable to keep making the choice to be open to that possibility anyway. Continue reading Defensive Living

All The Lonely People

When we find ourselves feeling lonely it’s not a simple as not having friends around. Loneliness and community might seem like opposites, but we don’t simply choose one or the other, we have a lot of other choices that we come to first. Such as choosing fear of not being accepted or liked over being vulnerable. Or choosing to isolate ourselves from others. It’s smaller, everyday choices that shape what our relationships look like.  Continue reading All The Lonely People

A Heart Of Glass Turns One

I asked people to recommend anything and everything to … Continue reading Beach Reading: A Novel Idea

From the First Impression to the Last

We could make a terrible first impression and a great fifth. The point is that sometimes it takes longer to get to know people. It takes patience and seeing past differences or bad impressions and a belief that people are good.   Continue reading From the First Impression to the Last

On Forgiveness

This past summer I read an extensive book list I was trying to get through – as the summer came to a close many of the books that once captivated my attention have fallen aside, half read. I guess that’s why they say you shouldn’t try to read eight books at a time. As I prepared to pack my life up into one tangerine suitcase and … Continue reading On Forgiveness
